Hopkins Standout Palmer Joins Sparty Staff

October 26th, 2015 General News | Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Zach Palmer, a former standout attackman at Johns Hopkins University, has officially been brought on to the MSU lacrosse coaching staff. Growing up playing box lacrosse, Palmer, a native Canadian originally from Oshawa, Ontario, graduated from Hopkins in 2012 after leading the team in points and assists his senior year.

A highly touted recruit out of high school (Hill Academy), Palmer played a large part in the Blue Jay offense during his tenure in Baltimore, and paved the way for many after him as the first Canadian-born player to join the Hopkins lacrosse ranks. Since graduation, Palmer has bounced around several teams in both the MLL and NLL, and currently competes for the Ohio Machine in the MLL.

Palmer brings a sharp offensive mind to the table along with a terrific work ethic, and the experience of playing under an all-time great coach in Dave Pietramala.

“When [head coach] Cam Holding approached me about coaching at Michigan State, I knew it was a great opportunity," said Palmer. "I’ve known Cam a long time and his excitement and enthusiasm about the program was contagious. That, along with the fact that MSU is a terrific place for both school and lacrosse, I decided pretty quickly that it was the right decision. I’m excited to join this program and look forward to the future of it.”

Palmer will be commuting from Detroit to coach the Spartans, who have just started their fall season under Holding.
