Coaches vs. Cancer Events This Weekend

February 29th, 2016 General News | BYU | Fullerton | Chapman | Concordia | Georgia Tech | MSUD | Michigan State | San Diego State | Sierra Nevada | Claremont | UNLV | San Diego | USC | Texas | Utah Valley | Western Oregon

LAS VEGAS – For the third straight year, the EMW Foundation will be hosting the LAX Coaches vs. Cancer event from March 4-6 at Adventura Park in Henderson, Nev., along with on-campus sites in Georgia and California.

The Henderson LAX Coaches vs. Cancer event features 12 MCLA teams competing over three days, with all of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Teams from all over the western half of the country will descend on Henderson, including MCLA Division I programs Texas, Brigham Young, UNLV, Utah Valley, San Diego State and Chapman along with MCLA Division II teams Western Oregon, San Diego, Metro (Colo.) State, Concordia (Calif.), Sierra Nevada and Cal State Fullerton.

In addition, Westminster (Utah) – a former MCLA program reclassifying to NCAA Division II – will play San Diego State on Sunday. Six of the 13 teams at the event participated in the MCLA National Tournament powered by Under Armour last spring.

There will also be three on-campus games supporting LAX Coaches vs. Cancer. Michigan State visits Georgia Tech on Sunday at 5 p.m. while Claremont (Saturday) and the University of Southern California (Sunday) will host games in support of the cause.

“We’re looking forward to holding another great event this year,” said Matt Holman, the event’s tournament director. “MCLA-wise, we’ve been able to add some Division II teams to the mix of feature games in Henderson. We’ve also received great support from Georgia Tech with an on-campus event and continue to attract regional teams to also hold on-campus events. It’s an easy community service project that, through combined efforts, will make a solid impact for the American Cancer Society.”

The goal at the LAX Coaches vs. Cancer event in Nevada is $5,000, which will be raised by teams purchasing a shirt and/or making a donation through the EMW Foundation Coaches vs Cancer fundraising page. In lieu of a ticket, fans are asked for a $5 donation.

Three games will be broadcast live on the SLC YouTube channel, which are noted in the full schedule below. The Georgia Tech-Michigan State contest will be streamed HERE.
