Portland Announces Captains for '16

Portland Announces Captains for '16

February 11th, 2016 General News | Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men’s lacrosse team is proud to announce the captains for the 2016 campaign. Each captain is invaluable to the program and will look to lead the rest of the squad through an exciting schedule. The Pilots anticipate another run in the PNCLL Division II, where they came up short in the title game a year ago.

The three captains were chosen for their ability to lead their teammates and for the example they set on a daily basis.

Kyle Michael (D) – One of the only two seniors on this year’s team, the Colorado native (Mullen High) has been an integral part of the Pilots' success and growth throughout his time with the program. As a four-year starter at close defense, he has been routinely tasked with matching up with opposing team’s top attackmen. He uses his skill and discipline to bring consistency and reliability to the unit, and his play has earned him all-conference honors. Michael is also a leader off the field, where he is involved in the school’s U.S. Air Force ROTC program.

Evans Lineweaver (G) – Entering his third year in cage for the Pilots, Lineweaver, a junior from Tacoma (Stadium High), has emerged as one of the vocal leaders for the defense. His experience has given him confidence to take charge and help others understand concepts. Evans tallied 90 saves in 2015, and looks to build on that this season.

Madison Pihl (A) – A junior attackman from local-powerhouse Lakeridge High, Pihl has set the tone for offensive production during his time with the program. In 2015, he accounted for 41 goals and 25 assists – nearly five points per game. His play earned him all-conference and All-American honors as a sophomore. He brings a winning attitude to the team that is contagious, and holds himself and others to a high standard.

The Pilots begin their regular season Friday night when they travel to Arcata, Calif., to take on Humboldt State under the lights in the Redwood Bowl at 8 p.m. They will round out the weekend with a matchup versus UC-Davis in the Redwood Bowl on Saturday at 3 p.m..
