Big First Quarter Sparks PBA

April 3rd, 2016 General News | PBA | SCAD

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. –– Palm Beach Atlantic University jumped out to a seven goal first quarter en route to a 16-10 victory against the Savannah College of Art & Design on Saturday night.

Christian Corbin (Bowie, Md./St. Mary's Annapoils) and Camden Baggs (Summerville, S.C./Ashley Ridge) paced the Sailfish (7-2) as both were awarded game balls in the rivalry game win. Corbin finished with five goals and one assist, while Baggs had one goal, two assists, and seven ground balls.

The scoring began early and often for PBA, who got three early goals from Corbin, contributing to a 5-1 lead. After taking a 10-5 lead into halftime, the 'Fish found leads as big as 14-6 and 15-7 in the second half. In the midst of the scoring, Mike Mastracchio (Jupiter, Fla./St. Leo Univ.) scored four goals, while Matt Dillon (Jupiter, Fla./Univ. of Florida) had four assists. In total, nine Sailfish found the scoring column against SCAD.

Steven Grove (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./The King's Academy) led a stout Sailfish defense with 14 saves and Anthony Curra (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) had one assist, five ground balls, and five forced turnovers.

LETTING THEM PLAY
For the second straight game, the officials let both teams play, with just 1:00 of penalties awarded in the game. The Sailfish never went man-up in the game, while they were penalized for two 30 second technical fouls.

HISTORY LESSON
Palm Beach Atlantic's 16-10 victory on Saturday night was PBA's third all-time against the Bees (3-6). It is also the second in a row for the 'Fish, who won 17-4 at home in 2015.

WHAT'S ON TAP
The Sailfish are in Savannah, Ga. this weekend for a two-game set against SCAD and Coastal Carolina. PBA plays the Chanticleers next on Sunday at noon at the SCAD Athletics Complex. Follow the 'Fish on Twitter for live score updates.
