Cal Poly, SNC Grab WCLL Top Seeds

SAN FRANCISCO – The Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) has set its brackets for the conference tournament with Cal Poly and Sierra Nevada installed as the tops seeds in Division I and II, respectively.

The tournament will take place this weekend, with the semifinals on Saturday and the championship games on Sunday in Novato, Cailf. The winners of each division will receive an automatic bid to the 2016 MCLA National Championships in Orange County, Calif. The nationals run from May 9-14.

Cal Poly rolled through the conference slate undefeated to grab the top seed in Division I, and will face off with Sonoma State in one semifinal. The Mustangs downed the Seawolves, 11-9, a month ago. The other side of the bracket features a rematch of Saturday’s rivalry game between Cal-Berkeley and Stanford. The Golden Bears downed the Cardinal, 7-5, to earn the home jerseys in this rematch.

In Division II, Sierra Nevada was also unblemished in WCLL play, earning the top spot. The Eagles draw UC Santa Cruz in the semifinals. SNC won the first meeting, 8-1. UC Davis is the second seed and will square up with San Jose State. The Aggies breezed in the first meeting, 17-5.

Tickets for the WCLL tournament will be $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be available at the gate.

Division I
#4 Sonoma State vs. #1 Cal Poly, 11:45 a.m.
#3 Stanford vs. #2 Cal-Berkeley, 2:30 p.m.

Division II
#4 UC Santa Cruz vs. #1 Sierra Nevada, 9 a.m.
#3 San Jose State vs. #2 UC Davis, 5:15 p.m.

Sunday, May 1 – Finals – Novato, Calif.
Division I
Semifinal winners, 2 p.m.

Division II
Semifinal winners, 11 a.m.
