NDSU’s Schraut Has D-II Top Performance

NDSU’s Schraut Has D-II Top Performance

April 5th, 2016 General News | Bridgewater | Missouri Baptist | NDSU | Siena Heights | Sierra Nevada | St. Johns

ATLANTA – With MCLA Division II first team All-American Andrew Markland on the shelf with a season-ending injury, sophomore close defender Evan Schraut was tasked with guarding the best player on three of the best teams in the country this past weekend in Illinois.

After a 3-0 run – including the upset of No. 1 and defending national champion Dayton – Schraut has earned the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending April 3.

Assigned the opponent’s top attackman, being the point on the Bison 10-man ride and even taking faceoffs, Schraut did it all. The Champlin, Minn., native blanked Dayton’s top points man on Friday and then dominated his matchup for the final two contests. He finished with 17 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls along with a 70.0 faceoff winning percentage.

“Evan’s play during the whole weekend inspired his teammates and helped them to play at a high level,” said NDSU coach Zach Bosh. “When it comes to Evan, he basically just wants to outwork everyone around him, which everyone appreciates on the sidelines.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Schraut will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

UNDER ARMOUR HONOR ROLL

Brooks Armitage, Jr., St. John’s – The Johnnies attackman amassed seven goals and four assists in a 2-1 weekend. Armitage buried a hat trick in SJU’s upset of No. 1 Dayton, 10-7.

Robert Ates, Fr., Missouri Baptist – The Spartans rookie goalkeeper made 14 saves and allowed just three goals, helping MoBap upset No. 17 St. Andrews, 7-3.

Andrew DaSilva, Sr., Bridgewater State – DaSilva helped the PCLL favorites win their first two games of the year by combining for 11 goals in two games, including six in a come-from-behind win over WPI.

Dan Orr, Soph., Siena Heights – Siena Heights knocked off No. 10 Lourdes, 9-8, thanks to five goals and a helper from Orr. Earlier in the week, he netted a hat trick along with an assist in a win over Aquinas.

Jack Witt, Jr., Sierra Nevada – The Eagles’ long-stick middie helped SNC upend WCLL rival and No. 23 UC Davis, 8-4, by grabbing nine ground balls and dishing out three assists.
