Stambaugh Named Coach at WVU

Stambaugh Named Coach at WVU

August 23rd, 2016 General News | West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- The West Virginia University men’s lacrosse team is pleased to announce the hiring of their new head coach, Rick Stambaugh. An alumnus of WVU, Stambaugh brings 21 years of coaching experience to Morgantown as he returns to guide the Mountaineers.

The 2016-17 WVU Men’s Lacrosse team enters their 46th year of collegiate lacrosse as a Division I member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association, competing in the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference.

Stambaugh brings an extensive experience with developing lacrosse programs. His leadership was instrumental in the creation and development of multiple varsity lacrosse teams, building programs from the elementary school level through high school. He also founded the Black Dog Lacrosse Club, a travel program in south central Pennsylvania with over 200 members that boasts several championship squads. He has personally coached and developed lacrosse teams in Central Pa. that have created playing opportunities for thousands of lacrosse players.

“I am excited to be joining the WVU lacrosse organization,” said Stambaugh. “I would like to thank the officers for providing me this opportunity. My love for WVU and my passion for the game of lacrosse make this the optimal coaching job for me. I look forward to the challenge of building this program.”

Stambaugh has a B.S. in Business Administration from WVU and a professional certification in sports marketing from the University of Kentucky. He has achieved Level 3 Certification from US Lacrosse. A native of York County, Pa., he and his wife, Traci, have three children and one grandchild.
