GT Hosting Coaches v. Cancer

December 16th, 2016 General News | Florida State | Georgia Tech | Michigan State

ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech will host the 2017 "East Coast" version of the MCLA's Coaches vs. Cancer during the first weekend of March in an event that will feature three ranked teams from last spring.

The competition will kick off on Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m. when Florida State takes on Michigan State. The Seminoles finished last season with a 14-1 mark and a No. 19 ranking in the final MCLA Division I poll. The Spartans (8-5), ranked No. 18, won their fifth-straight CCLA championship before advancing to the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

The event will wrap up on Sunday, March 5, as Georgia Tech will take their shot at Michigan State. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a historic season in which they went 16-1 and advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in program history. These two teams met last year, with Georgia Tech registering an 11-5 victory.

"We are very excited to have this charitable event on our campus for the second-straight year," said Georgia Tech coach Ken Lovic. "We are grateful Michigan State has agreed to come again and that Florida State will join us."

"Florida State lacrosse is excited to be a part of the 2017 Coaches vs. Cancer games this year," added Seminoles coach Jerry DeLorenzo. "We look forward to playing the best competition in the nation and supporting a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. The 'Noles return a veteran team and the expectations are high in Tallahassee this year."

"The 2017 Coaches vs. Cancer games continue to expand nationally and I'm excited to have Georgia Tech hosting the "Eastern expansion" for the second straight year," said program sponsor Matt Holman with the EMW Foundation. "With all three teams participating, this is sure to start us off in the right direction. Thanks to the teams for making the early commitment in support of the American Cancer Society."
