Dominican Names '17 Captains

January 14th, 2017 General News | Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Four captains have been selected to lead the Dominican University of California men's lacrosse for the 2017 season.

Sophomore midfielder Harrison Rae, senior defender Rudy Buhlman, junior attackman Michael Manfredi and senior goalie Max Kaehler were unanimously selected by team vote. These four will look to lead the Penguins to their first-ever WCLL title and a trip to the MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour in their second year of postseason eligibility.

Manfredi played his high school ball at Faith Lutheran (Las Vegas) where he was a key member of their offense. In his sophomore season, Manfredi racked up 26 goals, 17 assists and 74 ground balls. He also was named second team all-conference. Manfredi will help lead the Penguins young offense.

Kaehler will help lead a young, but talented, defense in his final season. He is a strong leader with a military background and will be an important member of our strong defensive unit. Kaehler will look to lead the team on and off the field.

Buhlman was a member of Dominican's two-time WILA conference championship team. He hails from Davis, Calif., and in his second season in the MCLA he tallied 20 ground balls, two goals and an assist and was the leader on the defense. Buhlman also was named second team all-conference.

Rae played his high school ball at Eagle (Idaho) High School where he was a key member of the offense. In his freshman season, Rae racked up 10 goals, 13 assists and 37 ground balls. He will help lead the Penguins' young offensive unit.

The Penguins open their 14-game schedule against PNCLL powerhouse Oregon State on Feb. 11.
