SJU’s Kraus Has Top Performance

SJU’s Kraus Has Top Performance

February 21st, 2017 General News | St. Johns

ATLANTA – After pacing St. John’s to a pair of ranked victories over the weekend, freshman midfielder Tommy Kraus has earned the MCLA Division II Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending Feb. 19.

On Friday evening, the Johnnies hosted No. 8 Minn.-Duluth and Kraus proved to be a difficult matchup for the Bulldogs. The Eagan, Minn., native scored four goals and dished out to assists in the 17-5 triumph.

Kraus followed that up on Sunday with three goals and a helper in the 18-0 rout of No. 25 Missouri State. After three games, the rookie is tied for first in scoring with 14 points (10g, 4a).

“Tommy has been a great addition to the Johnnies and in just three games in his young career he has proven he can handle the biggest situation and help spark the Johnnie offense,” said St. John’s coach Derek Daehn. “Tommy has as much talent as anyone in the country, but his best attribute is trying to make his teammates better and will do whatever it takes to help the team succeed."

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Kraus will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Under Armour Honor Roll

Manny Duhon, Sr. – La.-Lafayette
In the Ragin’ Cajuns 2-1 trip through Georgia, Duhon amassed 10 goals and an assist while also winning the majority of his draws at the faceoff dot.

John Scalley, Fr. – UT Dallas
The Comets netminder turned away 22 shots, allowing just three as UT-Dallas knocked off CCLA Division I foe Oakland. The rookie was the difference in the 8-3 victories for UTD. He also turned away five shots in a shutout of Southern Illinois.

Jack Witt, Sr. – Sierra Nevada
The do it all long-stick middie led the Eagles to a comfortable win over their biggest WCLL rival. Witt gobbled up nine ground balls along with a goal and an assist in the 16-3 rout of No. 17 UC Davis.

Michael Fifield, Soph. – Appalachian State
The Mountaineers posted a 2-0 weekend featuring a win over No. 22 La.-Lafayette using Fifield’s performance in net. He had 24 stops against the Cajuns and 41 combined for the weekend.
