BC’s Carney Earns Weekly Award

BC’s Carney Earns Weekly Award

April 25th, 2017 General News | Boston College | Georgia Tech | Oklahoma | Oregon | UC Santa Barbara

ATLANTA – After controlling possessions for Boston College in the Eagles’ two crucial wins over ranked conference opponents this past weekend, junior faceoff man Griffin Carney has earned MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending April 23.

On Friday night in Alumni Stadium, BC entertained crosstown rival No. 22 Northeastern. Thanks to the Brick, N.J., native winning 18-of-20 draws and scoring a pair of goals, the Eagles rolled to a 12-5 victory.

The following day, the Eagles entertained No. 13 UConn and again Carney controlled the dot, winning 13-of-16 faceoffs in a 9-3 triumph.

For the weekend, he won 31-of-36 of his draws (86.1%) while also gobbling up 23 ground balls along with his third and fourth goals of the season.

“Griffin Carney is the heart and soul of our lacrosse team,” said Boston College coach Louie DeDonatis. “Every possession in lacrosse starts at the X and nearly 80 percent of them ended with us getting the ball because of his efforts. We wouldn't be nearly the team we are without number 11."

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Carney will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
