Cal Poly Repeats in WCLL

April 30th, 2017 General News | Cal Poly | California

NOVATO, Calif. – John Corbolotti helped Cal Poly outscore California, 8-4, in the second half, allowing the Mustangs to post a 10-8 victory and repeat as the Division I Western Collegiate Lacrosse League champions.

Cal Poly earned an automatic berth in the 2017 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will run from May 8-13 in Orange County, Calif. It is the 12th visit to nationals for the Mustangs, which were the runner-up last spring.

Corbolotti scored four goals and dished out three assists to lead the Cal Poly effort, and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for the second straight year. Bryce Veit added a pair of goals and Sean Pihl made eight saves.

The Mustangs were awarded the No. 5 seed at nationals and will face Virginia Tech in the first round. California was awarded an at-large bid to the 16-team field and was slotted at No. 6. The Golden Bears will face Oregon.
