Lawlor, Lyons Added to UA Staff

Lawlor, Lyons Added to UA Staff

September 9th, 2017 General News | Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona head coach Matt Blamey announced the addition of two talented coaches to the Wildcats' staff. Blamey, who is entering his first season with Arizona, welcomes Will Lawlor and Dustyn Lyons as assistant coaches for the 2017-2018 campaign.

"We have conducted a thorough search to find the right coaches to round out our staff. I wanted not only quality Xs and Os guys, but coaches who are willing to do what it takes to resurrect a program," Blamey said. "Coach Lyons and Lawlor both bring a tremendous amount of experience and enthusiasm to the University of Arizona. We have a shared strategic vision and an extremely optimistic outlook on the future of Arizona lacrosse. We can't wait to get to work this fall."

Will Lawlor | Offensive Coordinator

Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Lawlor has worked the past three seasons coaching lacrosse in Pa., most recently as interim head coach at Alvernia University where he oversaw recruiting responsibilities.

He served as the offensive coordinator and faceoff coach for the Golden Wolves during the 2017 season. Previously, Lawlor spent two seasons coaching for Lower Merion High School and Pope John Paul II.

Coach Lawlor’s playing days began at Shipley School outside Philadelphia, where he had a decorated career. He then transferred to national powerhouse Radnor High School, where he started at attack.

Lawlor went on to play for Ohio Wesleyan, which was ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division III his freshman year. He speaks highly of his time at OWU and found a role at midfield after making the transition from attack.

Lawlor then transferred to NCAA startup Rosemont (Pa.) College, where he put his stamp on the team’s identity. Quarterbacking the offense from attack, Lawlor posted back-to-back stellar seasons before a knee injury cut his career short.

He earned the CSAC sportsmanship award in his final season of play, and still holds Rosemont’s single game records for points (9) and assists (7). Following graduation in 2015, Lawlor continued to play post-collegiately in the highly competitive Philadelphia Box Lacrosse League.

Dustyn Lyons | Assistant Coach, Defense & Goalies

Dustyn Lyons is originally from the Pacific Northwest. Over the past three years, Lyons worked as the defensive coordinator for Lake Oswego High School outside of Portland, Ore. He also served as a volunteer goalie coach for Oregon State University in 2015 and held coaching stints with Rhino Lacrosse and Lake Oswego Youth.

After excelling at goalie for Hood River High School, where he was a four-year varsity starter and all-state player, Lyons went on to play for storied Herkimer County Community College in upstate New York. At Herkimer, Lyons played in all 31 games, starting 28 of them and was recognized as a defensive MVP selection his freshman year. Lyons earned his Associate's Degree in 2012.

Coach Lyons then transferred to NCAA D-II powerhouse Limestone (S.C.) College, where he competed for two national titles. His career culminated with the NCAA National Championship Trophy in 2014.
