UGA Joining Faceoff for a Cause

UGA Joining Faceoff for a Cause

September 14th, 2017 General News | Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia men’s lacrosse team will be participating at the Faceoff for a Cause fall ball tournament on Oct. 21, helping raise money for the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

The Bulldogs will be the lone MCLA representative at the event that features NCAA Division II and III programs Peidmont, Shorter, Young Harris and Point along with Berry, the tournament host.

UGA head coach Billy O’Haire views the Dawgs invitation as a sign of the program’s strong reputation.

“Berry coach Curtis Gilbert paid our staff and players a huge compliment,” said O’Haire. “He places our coaching staff in a high regard, including our experience, and the way our players conduct themselves on the field.”

In addition to the Faceoff for a Cause event at Berry, Georgia will play a fall ball contest against Clemson on Oct. 8. The game will be played at Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., and will part of an initiative to grow the sport at the school.

“Clemson is always a contender and Buff Grubb does a great job with their program,” said O’Haire.

O’Haire has beefed up the fall slate in order to get the Bulldogs ready for a rugged 2018 schedule that features five Top 10 programs, including non-conference games against Grand Canyon, Arizona State and Colorado State.

Georgia will also be building of its Faceoff for a Cause efforts by incorporating several other fundraising ventures during the season.

The Dawgs have partnered with Lead the Way Fund, Headstrong and the Will to Live Foundation to raise donations during home games this spring.

“We are doing great things with this program and surrounding ourselves with even better people,” O’Haire said. “I couldn't be more proud of our coaching staff, student athletes, and the UGA Club Sports for allowing us to branch out and challenge the players.”
