TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's lacrosse players will honor one of the founders of the program, Don Golos, by wearing the initials "DG" on their helmets for the 2018 season.

Golos passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 4, 2017.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former lacrosse player at Cornell, Golos led an active life. He was integral in bringing lacrosse to the University of Arizona in 1960.

"I did not have the pleasure of meeting Don personally, but we are honored to remember someone who brought so much to the program," said first-year Arizona coach Matt Blamey. "Without people with such passion for the game, it's hard to imagine what the lacrosse landscape would look like out west. Don was a pioneer for our program and for the game as a whole."

Former Arizona coach and Don's long-time friend, Mickey Miles Felton, remembers him fondly.

"Don was always there to lend a helping hand or just some encouragement," Felton said. "He contributed gas money and loved having the guys over for barbecues and a swim. Legendary is the correct description for Don.

"For those not having the true pleasure of knowing Don and his impact on Arizona lacrosse, you missed a special guy. With no Lacrosse in Tucson when he arrived, he took charge and will always be known as one of the “Original Three” along with Chuck McChesney and Jay Lehr. Together, and with Don at the helm, they brought the energy to start the University of Arizona lacrosse program."

Don is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Vanessa; and his children, Rex and Molly. He will be missed greatly by many dear friends.
