Liberty-WVU Game on ESPN3

Liberty-WVU Game on ESPN3

February 27th, 2018 General News | Liberty | West Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The SELC Northwest divisional clash between No. 17 Liberty and West Virginia will be broadcast on the WATCHESPN (ESPN3) platform this weekend, making it available to thousands of lacrosse fans across the country.

This is the first non-varsity collegiate men's lacrosse game to be aired via this ESPN platform.

The contest between the Flames and Mountaineers, which is slated for 3 p.m., is one of two Liberty games that will be on ESPN3 this spring. The “Midnight Mayhem” game on April 6 against Pitt will also be streamed nationally.

“At Liberty we are very fortunate to have amazing support from our University,” said Liberty coach Kyle McQuillan. “One small part of that is the ability to broadcast our home games live, complete with play-by-play and color commentary. This season will mark the first time we are able to simulcast our broadcast on ESPN3.

“This is a great opportunity not only for Liberty lacrosse to showcase itself to a much larger potential audience, but also for the MCLA to be represented on a national level. We are excited about this opportunity to help us increase awareness about our program, increase our ability to recruit and to support our efforts in bringing in high level competition.”

Placing the broadcast, which will be produced by Liberty’s in-house network, is the result of consistently providing quality streams and broadcasts.

“The Liberty Flames Sports Network has been blessed to build a relationship with ESPN where they trust that the product we provide in all of our broadcasts meets the standards for the WATCHESPN platform,” said Matthew Byrd, Director of Live Production at Liberty. “Students from Liberty University’s School of Communication and Digital Content are able to gain hands on experience through these broadcasts.

“Over 90 percent of the crew on the men’s lacrosse broadcasts will be students and we are excited for the exposure they will gain through this opportunity. We are thankful for the relationship with Club Sports to allow us to broadcast these games and give students the ability to have real hands-on learning experience.”

All of the Liberty men’s lacrosse games are expected to be simulcast on the ESPN3 platform for the 2019 season and beyond, according to McQuillan.
