TEMPE, Ariz. – Todd MacRobbie, the head coach at Arizona State for the past three seasons, has announced his resignation effective immediately.

Assistant coach Ben Prepchuk has been elevated to interim head coach.

“We know this was a difficult decision for Todd, as he has been a part of ASU’s tradition of excellence on the lacrosse field and classroom as a player, long-time assistant and head coach dating back almost three decades,” said Colleen Hayes, the team's general manager. “The team wishes him well in all his future endeavors.”

MacRobbie, a native of Suffern, N.Y., is a 1995 Arizona State graduate and was a long-time assistant before taking over as head coach in 2016.

In his two-plus seasons at the helm of the Sun Devils, MacRobbie helped ASU post a record off 22-20.

Arizona State qualified for the national tournament in both 2016 and 2017, advancing to the quarterfinals both seasons before being eliminated by the eventual national champion.

This season, the Sun Devils are 4-6 with all six loses coming by a lone goal and four of them in overtime. Of those extra-time games, two required quadruple overtime.

Prepchuk assumes head coaching duties for the remainder of the season through the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) playoffs and the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

Prepchuk was hired in the offseason as an assistant after a standout National Lacrosse League career that featured a championship in 2006 with the Colorado Mammoth.

He played his college lacrosse at Radford (Va.) before embarking on his pro career that featured stops in New York, Calgary, Colorado and Edmonton.

The program will conduct a national search for a permanent head coach immediately.
