Brackets Set for WCLL-I Tournament

April 23rd, 2018 General News | Cal Poly | California | Santa Clara | Sonoma State

SAN FRANCISCO – A perfect ride through conference play has given California the top seed in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) Division I tournament that takes place in Rohnert Park, Calif., on April 27-29.

The Bears (9-5, 7-0) will square off with No. 4 seed Sonoma State (7-8, 4-3) in the first semifinal on Friday night. Cal defeated the Seawolves, 11-4, on April 7 with Jake Lombardo’s two goals and four assists leading the way.

In the second semifinal, second-seeded Santa Clara (8-4, 6-1) battles third-seeded Cal Poly (7-8, 5-2). The Broncos won a 6-5 thriller on April 7 aided by 12 saves from Luke Miller.

The winner of Sunday’s final will earn an automatic qualifying berth to the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will take place in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.

“Cal has put together a solid season, but we’ll have four quality teams battling for the automatic qualifier this weekend,” said WCLL president Aaron Myers. “We encourage fans to come out and watch some great lacrosse.”

Admission to the WCLL Division I semifinals and finals will be $10 for adults, $5 students and free for children under 8.

Both semifinals and the championship game of the WCLL Division I Tournament will be streamed live on the NorCal SportsTV YouTube page.
