Bromley, Cunningham Players of Month

Bromley, Cunningham Players of Month

May 3rd, 2018 General News | Boston College | Fullerton | Cal State San Marcos | California | College of Idaho | Concordia | Montana State | MSUD | South Carolina | Utah

SPARKS, Md. – After leading their teams to the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour with strong April performances, Boston College senior attackman Spencer Bromley and Cal State San Marcos freshman attackman Alexander Cunningham have been named the US Lacrosse MCLA Players of the Month.

Boston College finished the month with a 6-1 mark and the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL) championship thanks to Bromley. The Surry, B.C., product scored 17 goals and dished out 10 assists (3.85 ppg) over that span, helping the Eagles score a No. 11 seed at nationals.

“Spencer has come in and done everything we’ve asked of him from the very first day he stepped foot on campus,” said Boston College coach Louie DeDonatis. “He is the epitome of a team-first guy. His hard work and dedication not only shows through his individual success on the field but also through the team success we’ve had this season.

“After he leaves BC he is going to go on and have a long career in the NLL. You would never know it based on the way he attacks practice every single day. He plays like a guy still trying to earn a spot on the team.”

Cal State San Marcos went 4-2 in April on its way to an appearance in the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) playoff finals aided by Cunningham’s adroit play on attack. The Temecula, Calif., native posted 24 goals and 25 assists (8.17 ppg) in the six games, allowing the Cougars to qualify for nationals as a No. 12 seed.

“For the first time in program history, we made it past the first round of the SLC playoffs and received a bid to the national championship tournament. A lot of that credit goes towards Alex,” said San Marcos coach Teddy Hicks. “He’s a very selfless player who always looks to feed first and has the uncanny ability to make everyone around him better.”

For their efforts, both Bromley and Cunningham will receive a one-year membership to US Lacrosse, the national governing body of the sport. Membership includes on-the-field insurance coverage, discounted tickets and apparel, along with a subscription to US Lacrosse Magazine.
