First Annual Skills Competition

First Annual Skills Competition

May 1st, 2018 General News

SALT LAKE CITY – The MCLA is hosting the First Annual Skills Challenge sponsored by Universal Lacrosse on Tuesday after the consolation round that is open to players from every team competing at the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

The competition, which is open to teams that lost on Monday as well as teams playing in the quarterfinals later on Tuesday afternoon, features three events.

The first event is for the goalies. Each entrant will have 30 seconds to score as many “Gilman” goals – shooting from behind their own goal-line extended – as possible.

The second event is for the big shooters. A radar gun will be placed behind the cage and players will fire away from 12-yards out with a run-up from 15-yards to record the highest MPH. Each competitor gets two shots and only made goals count. No pipes or misses!

The final event is the Full Field Challenge where competitors will have to run an obstacle course over the length of the field to see who can post the fastest time. The top three finishers in each event will receive a prize from Universal Lacrosse.

A team score will also be kept for bragging rights.

The event takes place on Tuesday from 12-2:30 p.m. on Fields 3 & 4 at the Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Complex. Each team that qualified for nationals can enter one player per event.

Coaches have until 10 a.m. MDT on Tuesday morning (May 8) to enter their players to either Tournament Director Matt Holman or [email protected].
