ATLANTA – After leading Michigan State to its first MCLA national championship this spring, Cam Holding has been named the 2018 Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Coach of the Year in Division I.

Holding will receive his Coach of the Year plaque at the annual IMLCA convention, which is held in early December in Baltimore.

In just his second year as the head coach of the Spartans, Holding led Michigan State to an 18-1 record and a No. 3 seed at the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

Holding’s outfit defeated Oregon, Virginia Tech, Brigham Young and Chapman over the course of six days to secure the championships. In every game this season, Michigan State kept its opponents out of double-digits.

“I am very honored to receive this award, but I know that this award has so much more behind it,” Holding said. “Both of our other coaches – Nate Small and D.J. Lubs – made sacrifices to be with our team every single day and help make us the team we were this year. Coach Lubs has led our defensive unit that has kept opponents to single-digits all season and Coach Small was an offensive mastermind against Chapman, helping us score at some key moments.

“We have been saying all season that we have the group to make this happen. Our coaching staff spent a ton of time watching film and putting together game-plans and our players executed. It was one heck of a season and a group of guys I will remember forever. Now I’m excited to get to work on 2019.”

In his two years in East Lansing, Holding has posted a 29-6 overall record including an 11-0 mark in the CCLA, a 4-0 record in the CCLA playoffs and a 4-1 record at the MCLA tournament.
