Brennan Added to Texas Staff

Brennan Added to Texas Staff

July 23rd, 2018 General News | Texas

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men’s lacrosse program has hired Pat Brennan (Army '13) as its new offensive coordinator.

“I am so excited to have Pat on the staff,” said Texas coach Seth Bokmeyer. ”I was very impressed by the group of applicants that wanted to come be part of the program, but after interviewing the top candidates, Pat stood out. I have known Pat since his playing days at Army and I have seen first-hand his passion for the game of lacrosse and for being a lacrosse coach.

"Pat is going to do a great job not only with the offense as a unit, but he will make each of the players better as well.”

Brennan is a Southern Maryland native and played his prep years at St. Mary’s Ryken High School, where he received many team, local and regional awards. He led his team to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship for the first time.

Brennan attended The United States Military Academy at West Point where he excelled as a midfielder. Pat was a three-year starter, helping Army win the Patriot League championship and advance to the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round by defeating Syracuse in the first round.

After graduating, Brennan stayed at West Point where he served as the athletic liaison for the Army men’s lacrosse team while also serving as an assistant coach for the Army Prep School lacrosse team.

While stationed at Fort Hood, Brennan worked with many of the youth lacrosse teams in the Austin area as well as serving as a part-time volunteer assistant with the Longhorns.

The Longhorns offensive coordinator job opened up in June when Adam Bokmeyer, the Longhorns defensive coordinator over the last two seasons, accepted the head coaching position at St. Andrews University, a NAIA school in North Carolina. Tom O’Grady, the ‘Horns offensive coordinator, then moved over to the defensive side of the ball and the Longhorns started the search for their new offensive coordinator.

“One of the best things about being a head coach is having your assistants move up and take a head coaching job, but it's also very hard because it means that a great coach and friend has left the program," Bokmeyer said. "In this case, it's especially hard for me personally, but I know that Adam will do a great job at St. Andrews.

"Our defense is in great hands with Tom O’Grady moving into the defensive coordinator role, as he played on the defensive side of the ball in college while winning national championships at the junior college level and then finishing his career at NCAA Division I programs. He has also coached defense at all levels from high school through the NCAA.”
