LSU’s Hinyub is Goalie of Week

April 30th, 2019 General News | Santa Clara | South Carolina

ATLANTA – After a pair of huge performances that netted the Tigers their first-every nationals appearance, LSU sophomore netminder Rob Hinyub earned Pearl’s Division I Goalie of the Week honors for the period ending April 28.

In the semifinals of the Lone Star Alliance tournament, LSU went up against defending conference champion Texas A&M. The New Orleans product was the main reason the Tigers stunned the Aggies, making 27 saves in a 16-15 victory (64.3 sv%).

With a trip to the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour on the line in the finals against Texas, Hinyub turned away 21 Longhorn shots as LSU pulled the stunner, 13-9.

“This kid stood on his head all weekend long and was the backbone of our defense,” said LSU coach Shane Koppens. “He is a true leader on and off the field.”

For his efforts in earning the Pearl’s Performance of the Week, Hinyub will receive a prize package from Guardian Pearl, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian Pearl is the proud partner of the MCLA.

Guardian Pearl Honor Roll

Matt Lencioni, Jr. – Santa Clara
In the Broncos’ upset of Cal Poly in the WCLL semifinals, Lencioni made 21 saves – including eight in the first quarter – for a 72.0 save percentage.

Colin Hains, Sr. – South Carolina
Hains posted a 3-0 weekend for the SELC crown, combining for 35 saves and allowing just 18 goals (66.0 sv%) on the weekend.
