ATLANTA – After backstopping the Gamecocks to their first MCLA national championship this spring, South Carolina senior goalie Colin Hains was named the MCLA Division I Player of the Year on Tuesday.

The Bethesda, Md., product amassed an impressive collection of honors, culminating in this Player of the Year honor.

At the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, Hains was named to the all-tournament team and was the Most Outstanding Player of the title game after making 17 saves in the win over previously undefeated California.

Upon the conclusion of the tournament, Hains was tabbed the First Team All-American goalie. This followed a regular season in which he was the first team all-SELC goalie and the conference Defensive Player of the Year. Hains was twice named Pearl’s Goalie of the Week in ’19.

Hains finished the season with a 21-2 record and a 63.2 save percentage.

“Colin has been an integral piece of our success the past two seasons,” said South Carolina coach James Harkey. “A senior captain this year along with with Frank Fiorino and Ryan Vallen, he was selected team MVP by his peers in both '18 and '19. He has an uncanny ability to make some head-scratching plays that leave you wondering how the ball isn't in the back of the net.

“But his best attribute is his stellar communication; an ability to get the six guys in front of him to work together regardless of who those six are. I am excited to watch the next step in his career between the pipes.”
