Georgia Tabs Garrigan as Head Coach

Georgia Tabs Garrigan as Head Coach

August 5th, 2019 General News | Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia men's lacrosse program is excited to announce the hiring of Andy Garrigan as its next head coach starting with the 2020 season.

Garrigan has over 23 years of lacrosse coaching experience and is no stranger to the MCLA.

He coached three years at Texas, leading the Longhorns to a pair of Lone Star Alliance titles in 2013-14 and the highest national ranking in program history (No. 10) in 2014. He finished with a record of 28-8 with two trips to the MCLA National Championships.

Garrigan joins the Bulldogs after a three-year stint as the head coach at Flower Mound (Texas) High School. From 2003-13, he was the head man at Austin (Texas) High School, posting a 105-56 mark while being named the Texas State Coach of the Year in 2007.

“We’re ready to go in a different direction with the team this year," said Georgia president Trent Bruno. "With Coach Garrigan’s powerful coaching style and track record of creating a winning culture everywhere he goes, we are confident he’ll be a great fit. We also have a lot of returning and incoming talent, so we have big expectations for the upcoming season.”

He guided Austin to Central District championships five times and the state championship game four times.

Garrigan has also gained coaching experience at prep programs like St. Mark's, Highland Ranch and Team Texas.

He takes over a Georgia program that finished 7-6 in 2019 and qualified for the eight-team SELC tournament, bowing in the quarterfinals to eventual national champion South Carolina.
