Harris Named Head Coach at Oregon

Harris Named Head Coach at Oregon

November 5th, 2020 General News | Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men’s lacrosse program is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Harris as the head coach of the Ducks for the 2021 season and beyond.

Harris takes over an Oregon program that had its former head coach, Charlie Jackson, pass away last February. Coincidentally, Harris played for Jackson at Acalanes (Calif.) High School.

“Charlie served as a mentor for my coaching career and it is an honor to carry the torch since his passing,” said Harris. “Much of what we do this year, and in years moving forward, is to deliver on the goals set by the players when Charlie Jackson was still with us.

“My job is to help keep the team focused and on course on the same mission: to represent the University of Oregon well by giving no less than 100 percent of their effort and intention to their academic and lacrosse training, and to play with passion with, and for, their teammates.”

After graduating from Chico State, Harris joined the staff at his alma mater in Jackson’s first two years (2010-11) with the Wildcats, getting an introduction to an MCLA program.

After leaving Chico, Harris became a staple in the Sacramento-area lacrosse scene. He coached with the Chico Rebels and Sacramento Heat before creating the North State Pride club program.

In 2013, Harris was named the Sacramento Regional Director of “ADVNC,” which helped local players compete at the national club level. Since then he has coached at Bishop O’Dowd (Calif.) High School and Acalanes.

Harris takes over an Oregon program that has won the last three Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League (PNCLL) championships and was a co-favorite to win it again in 2020. The Ducks were 5-2 and ranked No. 20 in the country at the conclusion of last spring.
