BC’s Yorio Named Goalie of Week

BC’s Yorio Named Goalie of Week

February 22nd, 2022 General News | Arizona | Boston College | Concordia | Florida | Liberty | USC | Washington

ATLANTA – After leading Boston College to a trio of wins on its weekend trip to the Lone Star State, senior netminder Zachary Yorio has been named the PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 20.

The Huntington, N.Y., product started the week on Friday against Texas after a five-hour flight. Yorio made 20 saves in the contest, helping the Eagles down the Longhorns, 9-7. He finished with a 74.1 save percentage.

On Saturday, BC tackled UC Santa Barbara and again Yorio stood tall, making 11 saves in a 15-8 victory (57.9 save percentage).

The Eagles finished the weekend on Sunday at Southern Methodist and Yorio made a dozen saves (75.0 save percentage) as BC swept the state with an 11-4 victory.

For the weekend, Yorio had 43 saves against just 19 goals allowed – a staggering 69.4 save percentage and a goals against average of 6.33.

“Along with being an outstanding goaltender, Zach is the brains of our defense,” said Boston College coach Patrick Stanton. “He is very much a coach on the field, directing some of our younger players throughout the game.

“He refuses to quit. Zach sells out for every save and keeps us in games, showing up especially when we need him the most.”

For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Yorio will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
