ATLANTA – After anchoring the St. Thomas defense on its run to the UMLC championship this past weekend, Tommies junior long-stick midfielder Mike Woodhouse is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 24.

On Saturday against bitter rival St. John’s in the UMLC semifinals, the Minneapolis product stalked the fields, ripping the Johnnies for three caused turnovers and five groundballs in the Tommies, 16-7 win.

In the championship game on Sunday against No. 5 Grand Valley State, Woodhouse again patrolled most of the field, gobbling up four ground balls and causing another pair of turnovers as St. Thomas stifled the Lakers, 9-8.

“His quiet confidence is key to his success,” said St. Thomas defensive coordinator Jon Harris. “He leads by example and is constantly seeking ways to improve – a true ‘we over me’ player. His effort is relentless. He embodies a ‘never finished’ mentality.”

“Mike is the hardest worker in every practice we have, and that effort translates right into game day,” said St. Thomas coach Justin King. “He has a motor that doesn’t quit and is constantly pushing his teammates to be better. He is tremendous leader always bringing a ‘can do’ attitude.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Woodhouse will receive a Warrior Burn XP-D – a $100 value – for his efforts. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.

The Utes rolled to the RMLC title thanks to the Lafayette Hill, Pa., native. He combined for five goals, four helpers, five GBs and four caused turnovers in two games.

Luke Farnan, Attack – Tulane
The Green Wave downed Texas A&M D-II to advance to the LSA semifinals thanks to five goals and a pass from the Westhampton, N.Y., native.

Nick Ferens, Attack – UNC-Charlotte
The 49ers clinched the ALC top seed thanks to four goals and five dimes from the Stanley, N.C., product, a win over Coastal.

Dylan Stanhope, Attack – Kennesaw State
The Acworth, Ga., product was named SELC tourney offensive MVP after combing for six goals and two assists against FAU and FGCU.

Van Goyen, Defense – College of Idaho
In the Yotes win over Northwest Nazarene, the Meridien, Idaho, product had a goal, two dimes, nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
