Montana’s Renk Named Player of Week

Montana’s Renk Named Player of Week

February 28th, 2023 General News | Air Force | FGCU | Montana | UNC-Charlotte | Utah State | Wake Forest

ATLANTA – After leading Montana to a pair of wins, including knocking of the top-ranked team, Grizzlies close defender Justin Renk is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26.

Montana opened the weekend in Minot, N.D., playing No. 1 St. Thomas. Matched up with the Tommies’ top offensive threat, the Liverpool, N.Y., native put the clamps on, helping to hold St. Thomas to just eight goals in the 10-8 victory.

He ended the game with a team-high 11 ground balls and received the team game ball at the conclusion of the contest.

The following day against No. 18 Minn.-Duluth, Renk snared another five ground balls along with his lockdown defense as the Grizzlies captured the 9-7 win.

“Justin is the kind of guy that can rally your entire team and make everyone play better,” said Montana coach Tucker Sargent. “He’s the biggest and strongest guy in every game and he has the skills to accompany that size and strength to neutralize every team’s top player.

“Justin is a very smart player, as well, and really knows the game and how to communicate with his teammates. There are not many players in the MCLA D-II that match his intelligence, size, skill and speed”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Renk will receive a Warrior EVO QX-D – a $100 value – for his efforts. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
