SELC Players of the Week

SELC Players of the Week

March 23rd, 2023 General News | FGCU | Georgia | Kennesaw State | South Carolina

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. -- Each week, coaches in the SELC submit their nominations to the SELC awards committee for an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. Below are the SELC Players of the Week for games played from March 13-19:

Division I

For the first time all year, the awards committee selected co-Offensive Players of the Week for Division I. It was felt that both young men were extremely deserving and that if both of their respective teams didn't have them in the lineup, the results would have been different.

Rory Cavanaugh, Georgia - Freshman, Attack
Cavanaugh had himself a weekend dropping four goals and one assist with three ground balls in a blow out over Pittsburgh on Friday and continued to impress with seven goals with one groundball beating an undefeated Florida State team on Sunday.

Patrick Reilly, South Carolina - Senior, Attack
South Carolina had an upset of their own this weekend, taking down the top-ranked Virginia Tech, partially in thanks to Reilly. He had a big day with four goals, three assists with four groundballs.

Defensive Player of the Week
Colm Flynn, South Carolina - Freshman, Goalie
Flynn would collect 14 saves with a 58.3 save percentage in their win over Virginia Tech. Despite South Carolina's record, Flynn has established himself in Columbia as one of the best goalies to come through the program since they won their first national championship in 2019.

Division II

Offensive Player of the Week
Jack Guiney, Kennesaw State - Junior, Midfield
Guiney would pick up eight goals and one assist on the weekend. Two of the goals came against Georgia Tech, one of the best Division I teams in the country, and six goals and one assist in a win against Coastal Carolina.

Defensive Player of the Week
William Watson, Florida Gulf Coast - Senior, Defense
In Florida Gulf Coast's big win over Minn.-Duluth over the weekend, Watson would accumulate six groundballs, four caused turnovers and played a crucial role in their 86 percent clearing rate on the day.
