No. 11 Arizona Stifles Utah Valley

No. 11 Arizona Stifles Utah Valley

February 7th, 2016 General News | Arizona | Utah Valley

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona men’s lacrosse team earned its first victory of the 2016 season with a 10-4 decision over Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines came in to the game with a 1-0 record after upsetting No. 1 Grand Canyon on Friday night.

It was a much different story Saturday as the Laxcat’s controlled the game for much of the 60 minutes for a convincing win. Arizona started off quick with a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and went into the half up 7-0. The defense, led by goalie Tanner Knego, pitched a shut well into the third quarter until UVU finally got on the board.

The offense cooled off in the second half as the UVU goalie made several big saves keeping the game close. UVU fought back to make it 9-4 but the Laxcat’s defense kept the Wolverines scoreless as the offense tacked on an insurance goal to make the final score 10-4.

Arizona is 1-0 on the season and will be heading to the PAC 12 tournament next weekend, which will be played on the campus of UCLA. The Laxcat’s play California on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Utah on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
