UVU’s Rowley Earns MCLA Weekly Award

UVU’s Rowley Earns MCLA Weekly Award

February 9th, 2016 General News | LSU | Stanford | Arizona | Nevada | UNLV | Utah Valley

ATLANTA – After turning in a pair of stellar games against two ranked teams – including a victory over top-ranked and defending national champion Grand Canyon – Utah Valley junior goaltender Shawn Rowley has been named the winner of the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending Feb. 7.

Rowley made 20 saves in the Wolverines victory over Grand Canyon on Friday night, helping visiting UVU post a dramatic, 11-10 overtime victory. Many of his stops were of the point-blank variety and he ultimately made the difference in the contest.

“Shawn played a phenomenal game on Friday night against Grand Canyon, arguably one of the strongest offensive team in the country,” said UVU head coach Brae Burbridge. “With an injured defensive line and one starter out for the night, Shawn made 20 saves to hold the Lopes to 10 – one of the lowest scoring games they have had in their previous 16 games. Shawn is the leader on that defense and he commands respect when he is in the cage. He got it on Friday.”

Rowley followed that performance on Saturday with a 19-save outing against No. 11 Arizona. The Wolverines fell to the Wildcats, 10-4, but Rowley still finished with a 65.5 save percentage for the game and a 66.1 mark for the weekend.

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Rowley will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

UNDER ARMOUR HONOR ROLL
Thomas Brown, Sr., LSU – Brown scored four goals and set up three others against Clemson, giving him 152 points for his career. That is good enough to set the program’s career mark.

Keenan Christoff, Fr., Nevada – The Wolf Pack returned to Division I with a 10-5 win over Chico State, aided by six goals and a dime from Christoff.

Eric Jones, Sr., UNLV – The Rebels went on the road and upended No. 9 San Diego State bolstered by three goals and three assists from Jones.

Tanner Knego, Sr., Arizona – Utah Valley was hoping for a clean sweep in the desert, but Knego ended those dreams with a strong, 12-save performance for the Wildcats.

Eric Lee, Jr., Stanford – The midfielder buried four goals and set up a fifth to give the Cardinal an impressive road win over No. 25 UC Santa Barbara.
