NDSU’s Sturgeon Snags D-II Honor

NDSU’s Sturgeon Snags D-II Honor

March 1st, 2016 General News | Concordia | MSUD | NDSU | Northern Arizona | PBA | SCAD

ATLANTA – After guiding No. 3 North Dakota State to a 2-0 start – including a convincing win over No. 6 Minn.-Duluth – Bison rookie attackman Kevin Sturgeon has earned Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour in Division II for the period ending Feb. 28.

Playing in a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, Sturgeon started off with three goals and an assist in a 16-3 victory over St. Cloud State. In the nightcap, the Eagan, Minn., native solved the stout Duluth backline to the tune of four goals and three assists.

For the weekend, he had seven goals, four assists and eight ground balls.

“Kevin is one of the hardest workers we have on our team,” said NDSU coach Zach Bosh. “Practicing for six weeks straight was a real grind, but I feel as if the work he put in against the number of talented poles we have prepared him for this game. Kevin's biggest contribution comes in his effort on our 10-man ride. That really sets up everything we do and he is big part of it.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Sturgeon will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

UNDER ARMOUR HONOR ROLL

Dillon Bernad, Sr., Concordia-Irvine – Locked in a duel with No. 19 San Diego, Bernad scored six goals and set up a seventh helping the Eagles pull away for a 14-9 victory.

Scotty Brown, Soph., Palm Beach Atlantic – Brown won 21-of-29 faceoffs, helping the Sailfish rally from a four-goal deficit to beat Division I Miami (Fla.), 14-12. He also dished out an assist.

Logan Bruss, Soph., Metro State – Northern Colorado was picked in the RMLC preseason poll, but the Roadrunners dismissed the Bears helped by five goals and four assists from Bruss.

Sean Mastro, Soph., Northern Arizona – The Lumberjacks upset No. 22 Cal State-San Marcos on Saturday, 15-9, thanks to two goals and five dimes from Mastro. He added eight GBs against Fullerton.

Eric Potts, Soph., SCAD – The Bees stunned No. 12 Florida Gulf Coast, 12-9, thanks to five goals from Potts. SCAD trailed 7-1 after one, but Potts helped spark the rally.
