Oakland Ends D-I Win Drought

Oakland Ends D-I Win Drought

March 29th, 2016 General News | Central Michigan | Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- On April 13, 2008, Oakland beat Western Michigan, 7-5. It was the last time the Grizzlies posted a victory against an MCLA Division I opponent, as they moved to MCLA-II the next season.

Eight years later, Oakland ended that drought.

Back in Division I for the 2016 campaign, the Grizzlies defeated CCLA rival Central Michigan, 8-7, on Saturday night for the first win during Barack Obama's presidency. It wasn't easy, however.

Oakland had to twice rally from two goals down, and only took the lead in the final minutes of the game.

The Grizzles were paced by four players -- Alexander Timmis, Hunter Spielman, Trevor Atkinson and Victor Fawaz -- who netted a pair of goals to account for the eight markers. Marek Nagy turned away 12 Central Michigan shots to pick up the win in cage.

Collin Mitchell paced the Chippewas with three goals and a helper. Grant Meade made 10 saves.

Oakland (2-6) entertains Michigan State on Wednesday while Central Michigan (0-5) travels to the University of Illinois.
