Southern Conn. Bounces Purchase

Southern Conn. Bounces Purchase

March 17th, 2016 General News | Southern Conn. | Purchase

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Purchase men's lacrosse took in their second contest of the spring Saturday, but despite some solid play, turnovers cost them in a 16-5 defeat to Southern Connecticut State University.

"Turnovers, unfortunately, really killed us," Panther head coach Michael Bocklet, Jr. explained. "On a bright note, every player contributed for us in some way. We were able to take 30-plus shots for the second straight game. SCSU's goalie was excellent."

The hosts started on a 6-0 run and that set the tone for the game. SCSU held a 13-6 advantage in saves. Turnovers proved most costly for Purchase, which lost the TO battle, 38-27. Purchase was also narrowly outshot 37-31. SCSU also held a slight advantage in groundballs, 42-34.

Bocklet said Purchase, which has three games remaining in the competitive club schedule for 2016, including two at home, will look to improve in the turnover, groundball and faceoff categories next time out. The Panthers were 8 for 22 in faceoffs.

Purchase was led offensively Carter Mardiney (SO/Rosendale, NY), Dylan Gethicker (SO/Lime Lake, NY), Justus Lacey (SO/Syracuse, NY) and Johan Morales (SO/South Hampton, NY). Mardiney recorded two goals, while Gethicker, Lacey and Moreles each had one in the loss.

Purchase is now set for its home opener on April 3, when the Panthers welcome the University of Bridgeport.
