UNLV’s Davidson Earns D-I Weekly Award

UNLV’s Davidson Earns D-I Weekly Award

March 15th, 2016 General News | Boston College | Chapman | Colorado State | BYU | UNLV | Virginia Tech

ATLANTA – After helping UNLV pull off one of the biggest upsets of the season, Rebels senior pole Dylan Davidson has earned the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 13.

The University of Arizona brought its 5-1 record and No. 5 national ranking to Las Vegas on Sunday, but UNLV stunned the LaxCats, 8-6, thanks to Davidson’s versatility and conditioning. Playing on the wing on faceoffs, Davidson finished with 12 ground balls, including three pivotal scoops that allowed the Rebels to maintain possession at the end of the game.

Davidson never left the field, cycling back to close defense after faceoffs, and stifling his individual matchup for nearly the entire game. He even dished out an assist in transition for UNLV.

“Dylan has been tenacious on the wing during the faceoffs, either getting the ground ball or running down the opposing team’s player who has the ball,” said UNLV coach Darren Gagnon. “Dylan never comes off the field; once we get control of the ball, he rotates in to play close defense. He is rare breed. It is tough to play with 14 guys on the roster. Everyone needs to step up and play their best for us to be successful.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Davidson will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

UNDER ARMOUR HONOR ROLL

Griffin Carney, Soph., Boston College – Carney continued his brilliant faceoff play on Monday by winning 19-of-26 in an upset of No. 10 Arizona State, helping the Eagles go 2-1 on their spring break trip.

Ryan Chamberlain, Soph., Colorado State – The Rams’ FOGO won 18-of-20 draws in a 10-7 win over Cal-Berkeley while also netting the game-winning goal for CSU late in the game.

Gus Gradinger, Sr., Chapman – The Panthers’ netminder made 17 saves in the dramatic, 13-12 overtime victory against No. 3 Colorado, including two monster stops late in the extra frame.

Matt Brandenburg, Sr., Brigham Young – In a narrow, 8-7 victory over No. 10 Arizona State, Brandenburg was the difference. He finished with 17 saves, including a huge stop with under a minute and BYU man down.

Reynolds Yarbrough, Soph., Virginia Tech – Facing a ranked Michigan State squad, Yarbrough made 13 saves to help the Hokies record a needed, 8-7 overtime victory against the Spartans.
