Bement Grabs Commanding Performance

Bement Grabs Commanding Performance

March 15th, 2016 General News | Cal State San Marcos | Lourdes | Missouri Valley | Dayton | St. Thomas

ATLANTA – After helping lock down the prolific North Dakota State offense on Saturday, St. Thomas junior close defender Alex Bement has earned the MCLA Division II Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 13.

Bement was tasked with covering NDSU’s leading scorer, Kevin Sturgeon, who entered the game with 12 goals and 13 assists in four games. With the Baltimore, Md., product locked on him, Sturgeon did not record a goal on the afternoon – the first time he’s been blanked this season.

The Tommies went on to win, 14-7, aided by a team-high five ground balls from Bement.

“Alex's skill and experience make our entire team better,” said St. Thomas coach Brian Gross. “His addition has made an already strong defensive unit that much better, which, in turn, helps our offense improve with every practice. He's very smart and accurate with his checks, and has the ability to take the ball away and turn defense into offense. Most importantly, he's been a great teammate whose pure passion for lacrosse has been embraced by everyone on the team.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Bement will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
