Aquinas Topples No. 25 LTU in Thriller

April 20th, 2016 General News | Aquinas | Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, MIch. -- Aquinas won a second straight one-goal thriller, beating No. 25 Lawrence Tech on Tuesday evening. Similar to their game on Sunday against Robert Morris just 48 hours before, Aquinas rallied from early deficit to earn the comeback win.

The Saints scored first, but trailed Lawrence Tech 4-3 after the first quarter. A strong second quarter by the Blue Devils saw the Saints hit the halftime break trailing 8-5. Aquinas came out firing to start the second half, scoring four of the first five goals in the third quarter to make it a game.

The teams entered the fourth-quarter even at 10, setting up a thrilling finish.

The Saints' Nate Cantin and Sam Klinsky scored early in the fourth to give Aquinas a 12-10 lead. Lawrence Tech kept the pressure on, scoring late to make it a one goal game, but the Saints defense held strong late, keeping the Blue Devils from evening the score.

Senior Will Comai led Aquinas with a goal and three assists. Kyle Foley and Cantin both added two goals and an assist. Klinsky scored twice, while Chris Wilder, Matt Mulcahy, and Joey Krause had a goal and assist each.

Tyson Marsh and Corby Haley also scored for the Saints. Mulcahy was all over the field defensively, causing five turnovers and grabbing four ground balls. Freshman goalie Mack Baker came in at halftime and held the Blue Devils to just three goals while making eight saves.

The Saints open the CCLA Tournament with a trip to take Dayton this Saturday at 2:00pm.
