KENNESAW – No. 5 Kennesaw State is now 9-1 after dispatching No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville, 15-6, on Friday night at the Owls Nest.

It was a break out evening for sophomore Damien Prosser, who scored six goals for the Owls, which included a hat trick in the first quarter. The midfielder from Kell High School had eight goals prior to tonight.

It was a complete game for the Owls, which was reiterated in the post-game huddle by captain Tyler Mathews.

Kennesaw lead from the beginning, scoring man up on their first shot of the game off a Cody Clark shot. The Owls scored five more times in the opening frame before tacking on another four goals before halftime, effectively putting the game out reach in the first 30 minutes.

The Owls defense stood strong, stifling the Belleville attack throughout the evening. Freshman Cooper Lyon was heavily involved after stepping into a starting role this week on close defense.

The South Forsyth product was responsible for four successful clears, while playing sound defense all evening.

“Our defense played lights out tonight,” said Kennesaw coach Tyler Yelken. “We are very happy with the way our defensive unit has been playing as a whole.”

Ed Thorne finished the game with two goals and three assists, while also causing two turnovers.

The Owls are 4-1 against ranked teams this season and have spring break off before finishing the regular season at home against Emory and Columbus State.
