LSA Tourney Starts This Weekend

April 11th, 2016 General News | Dallas Baptist | LSU | Oklahoma State | Rice | SMU | Stephen F. Austin | Texas A&M | Texas Christian | Texas State | Louisiana | North Texas | Oklahoma | Texas | UT-Dallas | UT-San Antonio

DALLAS – The Lone Star Alliance tournament in both Divisions I and II will begin this weekend with quarterfinal contests at home sites. The tourney will culminate with the semifinals and finals on April 23-24 at St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio.

In Division I, Southern Methodist will be the top seed coming out of the LSA North division while Texas State holds the same spot in the South. SMU (13-0), ranked No. 24 in the country, is one of three undefeated teams in D-I, joining top-ranked Chapman (15-0) and No. 2 Georgia Tech (11-0). Texas State totes a 10-2 mark into the playoffs and the Bobcats are riding a six-game winning streak.

Texas State is the reigning LSA champion, having defeated Texas in the 2015 title game, 12-3. The winner of this year’s conference championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2016 MCLA National Tournament powered by Under Armour, which begins on May 9 in Irvine, Calif.

In Division II, UT-Dallas and La.-Lafayette have earned the top seeds in the North and South divisions, respectively. UTD finished the regular season with an 8-1 mark and are on a five-game winning streak. The Ragin’ Cajuns finished 10-4 overall and haven’t lost since early March.

Because of a pair of forfeits on one side of the bracket, Oklahoma State and La.-Lafayette are advanced to the semifinals, where they will meet next Saturday.

Oklahoma State won last year’s title, and will be the No. 2 seed out of the North. The winner of the LSA Division II crown will be eligible for an at-large bid to the national tournament.

The semifinals and finals of the LSA tournament will be streamed live via StickStar Lacrosse.
