The Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference (GRLC) had to scramble yesterday, postponing one of the Division I semifinals to Sunday after hail, winds, lightning and rain kept Indiana and Miami (Ohio) from taking care of business. What does it mean?

Well, the game will be played on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The winner of the contest will then get a couple hours rest while the D-II championship game goes off before having to face Purdue in the finals. It’s definitely a competitive advantage for the Boilermakers, but the games must be played. Purdue rolled past Kansas, 15-7, to advance.

PCLL
No surprise with Boston College easily advancing over Buffalo, but the other semifinal? A wild affair, to say the least.

With 14:26 left to go in regulation, UConn held a 7-1 lead over New Hampshire and appear in complete control of the game. Nobody told the Wildcats, however, as they methodically chipped away at the lead. UNH tied the game at nine with 2:24 remaining and actually took a one-goal lead a minute later, only to see the Huskies send the game into overtime with only five ticks left.

After UConn killed off a penalty early in overtime, Ryan Walker potted the game-winner for the Huskies, sending them into the finals with Boston College.

PNCLL
Boise State did its best to crash the PNCLL semifinal party, but Oregon State struck in overtime to salvage a rivalry rematch with Oregon in the championship game. Does this league have the juice to produce a pair of bids to nationals?

WCLL
The top two seeds advancing to Sunday’s championship game isn’t too much of a surprise, but the fashion in which Cal Poly and Cal-Berkeley handled their business definitely raises an eyebrow. Both the Mustangs and Golden Bears rocked their respective opponents in the semifinals.

Cal Poly held a 5-3 lead at halftime, but outscored Sonoma State 9-2 in the second half to breeze to a 14-5 victory. In the regular season meeting, the Mustangs had to rally from 6-2 and 9-6 deficits to beat the Seawolves by two, but this was an entirely different animal.

Similarly, Cal beat Stanford, 7-5, last week, but the Bears completely outclassed the Cardinal in a 15-3 romp. Stanford scored first, but that was the highlight of the day as Cal is now a serious candidate for nationals regardless of Sunday’s final.
