Purdue Seeking Head Coach

Purdue Seeking Head Coach

June 1st, 2016 General News | Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue University men’s lacrosse program is searching for a head coach to fill its vacant position. The team is looking for a coach for both the fall of 2016 and the 2017 spring seasons with the possibilities of future years.

The team is a member of the MCLA Division I and competes in the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conferene (GRLC). The team is funded by player dues and is organized by elected officers. The Boilermakers are coming off back-to-back visits to the MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which have been held in Orange County, Calif., the past two seasons.

Responsibilities of the head coach include, but are not limited to, the organization, administration and coaching of the men’s lacrosse team along with recruiting qualified student-athletes and scheduling practices.

Qualifications:

Coaching experience and extensive knowledge of the game of lacrosse required. Playing experience preferred. Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the MCLA and the local community is also a plus. The lacrosse schedule works well with a standard 8-4/9-5 job.

Practices are about 3-4 times a week in the fall and 5-6 times a week in the spring. The team plays a tough and demanding schedule with games played on the weekends. Away games require a good amount of travel to and from the venue.

This is a paid position, and the candidates will go through a screening process.

Following the conclusion of the 2016 season, Michael Sanderson made the decision to step down as head coach at Purdue. Coach Sanderson's impact in this program will show for many years, as he has helped our program move forward greatly. He was also responsible for us winning two consecutive GRLC titles, as well as two trips to nationals. His impact for the team will be missed, and we would like to thank him and wish him the best of luck in the future as a coach.
