FSU’s Cicio Earns Weekly Award

FSU’s Cicio Earns Weekly Award

February 14th, 2017 General News | California | Chapman | Florida | Florida State

ATLANTA – After backstopping a pair of road victories against Top 10 programs, Florida State junior goalie Anthony Cicio is recipient of the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending Feb. 12.

The Seminoles flew across the country for a pair of games, starting with No. 8 Arizona State in Tempe on Friday night. Thanks to 17 saves by Cicio, Florida State was able to grind out a 6-5 victory. The following evening in Tucson, Cicio turned away another 14 shots as FSU posted a 9-7 triumph against Arizona.

For the weekend, Cicio notched a 72.1 save percentage along with a 6.00 goals against average in what were his first two collegiate starts.

“To go on the road and upset two teams ranked in the Top 10 on consecutive days was a great achievement for the Florida State lacrosse program,” said Seminoles coach Jerry DeLorenzo. “We wanted to prove to the MCLA that the East Coast can play a little lacrosse and the SELC is a strong conference with great coaches and exciting lacrosse.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Cicio will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Under Armour Honor Roll

Hank Champagne, Sr. – Florida
The Gators swept their first road trip, thanks to Champagne’s offensive efforts. He scored a pair of goals against LSU and followed it up with five goals and two dimes versus Alabama.

Davis Goodman, Jr. – Florida State
While Cicio did the heavy lifting on the defensive side of the field for FSU, Goodman scored four goals and dished out six assists, factoring in on two-thirds of the Noles scoring on the trip.

Simon Jenkin, Sr. – Chapman
In the season opener for the defending champs, Jenkin scored four goals, set up a fifth, snagged five ground balls and took 21 faceoffs to help the Panthers fend off San Diego State.

Max McKone, Sr. – California
No. 11 UC Santa Barbara visited Memorial Stadium on Saturday, and the Gauchos left with a loss after McKone buried five goals in a 13-5 victory for the 14th-ranked Bears.
