ATLANTA – Grand Canyon opened the 2017 season with a pair of Top 10 victories thanks to the superb all-around play of sophomore long-stick midfielder Jack Lamey, who earned the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered Under Armour for the period ending Feb. 26.

The Lopes (2-0) knocked off both No. 2 Colorado and No. 6 Colorado State over the weekend, aided by both Lamey’s defensive and offensive contributions. The Camas, Wash., native grabbed nine ground balls and caused five turnovers against two of the top offensive units in the country.

In the 14-11 win over Colorado, Lamey also buried a goal to help in the victory.

“Jack can defend, get the ball off the ground, help in transition, assist, score and play in early offense,” said Grand Canyon coach Manny Rapkin. “He is also a difference maker on the face off wing.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Lamey will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Under Armour Honor Roll

Cade Bailey, Jr. – Oregon
The attackman led the Ducks to a pair of wins, including one over No. 25 Sonoma State. In the two contests, he struck for a total of nine goals while dishing out five dimes.

Kevin Boland, Jr. – Michigan State
In a weekend sweep of No. 23 Minnesota and Indiana, Boland posted a 7.50 GAA and a 55.9 save percentage. He made 13 stops – including two clutch ones in the final minute – to beat the Gophers.

Matt Hammond, Sr. – Oklahoma
The Sooners improved to 6-0 after a sweep of Elon and Texas Tech. Hammond combined for five goals and seven assists in the two victories. He also chipped in with four ground balls.

Graham Lorber, Jr. – South Carolina
The Gamecocks upended No. 16 Virginia Tech, and Lorber factored in on half of the team’s production in the 10-8 win. He had four goals and an assist before adding two goals and a helper versus East Carolina.

Cian O’Donnell, Jr. – UNLV
The Rebels pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season when they upended No. 4 BYU on Friday evening, 8-6. O’Donnell made 16 saves against the Cougars and another 15 in a loss to Cal Poly on Sunday.
