Saturday: Hokies Scare GCU

March 4th, 2017 General News | Grand Canyon | Virginia Tech

Friday evening provided plenty of action in the MCLA, and today, Saturday, March 4, should be just as interesting with 24 contests on the Division I schedule/scores page.

The biggest upset so far is came in the City of Trees.

Broncos defeats the #7th ranked Oregon Ducks. 12-8. #BoiseState #Broncos #ATF

Watch the replay of the Broncos upset:

Three of today's games will be part of the Coaches vs. Cancer event this weekend that is taking place on both coasts. No. 14 Michigan had another strong defensive performance against No. 9 Florida State in the lone East Coast game today, but the Seminoles backline was even stingier in a 7-4 FSU victory..

At the Palm Desert site of Coaches vs. Cancer, No. 23 San Diego State bounced No. 10 Oregon State, 9-6. Rough day at the top of the PNCLL.

There are a pair of marquee games in the desert this evening. No. 21 Virginia Tech nearly knocked off No. 2 Grand Canyon, but the Lopes won it in double overtime.

GCU BEATS VIRGINIA TECH 6-5 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME!!! #golopes #fortheboys #doubleot #nextgame #3-0 #inHisnameweplay

No. 4 BYU avoided the upset to No. 13 Arizona State, winning 9-6.

Texas swept its road trip, taking down Ole Miss in Baton Rouge, 11-6. The game replay is HERE. (They aren't allowing the YouTube player to embed).

Texas A&M took one on the chin from No. 6 Colorado State, 18-1, on Friday night, and the Aggies came up short against No. 8 Colorado today. 20-6. The stream of the game is available HERE.

The WCLL clash between Sonoma State and No. 5 California turned into a rout as the Bears coasted to a 18-8 victory over the Seawolves.

There are 23 games on the Division II schedule/scores page today, with tonight's contest between No. 4 Concordia-Irvine and No. 5 St. John's taking top billing. It was close for a while, but the Eagles pulled away for the comfortable win thanks to some strong goalie play from A.J. Rossi.

The non-conference tilt between Washington (Mo.) and La.-Lafayette could feature the two eventual AQ recipients of the GRLC and LSA, respectively. The Ragin Cajuns might have kept the LSA out of the 16th seed with a 14-8 victory over the Bears.

It doesn't matter much in the postseason race, but the interdivisional battle between Division I No. 3 Cal Poly against Division II No. 7 Sierra Nevada proved to be a gem. The Mustangs had to rally from an early two-goal deficit to down the Eagles, 6-4. At least the Eagles got a break from the snow up in Tahoe.

The Eagles have landed... Thought we'd get the sticks dialed in on the beach! #SNCLacrosse #mcla17
