Fuqua Resigns at Arizona

Fuqua Resigns at Arizona

June 1st, 2017 General News | Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Spencer Fuqua, the head coach of the University of Arizona men’s lacrosse team during the 2017 season, has resigned, according to a Facebook post on the program’s account.

“Spencer Fuqua has resigned his position as head coach at Arizona, effective immediately,” the post read. “All of us with Arizona Lacrosse wish him the best of luck in his new venture.

“Currently, a national search plan has been put in place to hire a new head coach for the program. We recognize quality and stable leadership, starting with the head coach, is essential to return our program to the level of success that we desire. We are optimistic that we will find the right person to lead the program for the 2017-2018 season and beyond.”

Fuqua took the reins of the Wildcat program last offseason after the resignation of Derek Pedrick at the conclusion of the 2016 campaign.

Against a schedule featuring six teams that qualified for the 2017 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, Fuqua led Arizona to a 5-9 record. The Wildcats qualified for the six-team SLC tournament, narrowly losing to UC Santa Barbara in the first round.
