UC Santa Cruz Tabs Boehm

August 29th, 2017 General News | UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The University of California, Santa Cruz men’s lacrosse program is pleased to announce that Larry Boehm has been named its new head coach.

Boehm replaces 2017 WCLL Coach of the Year Mike O’Neill, who retired in May.

“Coach O’Neill has been instrumental in the success of our men’s lacrosse [program] over the past several years and we can’t thank him enough for his commitment to the UC Santa Cruz lacrosse community. We wish him all the best in retirement. Despite losing a coach of the year recipient, we are ecstatic to welcome Coach Boehm and his assistant, Coach D’Arrigo, on staff to continue the success of Slug Lacrosse,” said Clint Angus, assistant director of competitive sports and camps.

A native of Deer Park, N.Y., Boehm attended Washington (Md.) College, where he was named National Goaltender of the Year, First Team All-America and National Championship Game MVP. In 2007, he was inducted into the Washington College Athletic Hall of Fame.

“I am excited to be at UC Santa Cruz, and look forward to carrying on the achievements built by Coach O’Neill, UC Santa Cruz Sports Clubs, the alumni, and its players,” Boehm said.

Boehm had served as head coach at San Jose State, where he was named 2014 WCLL Coach of the Year. He has also coached at Washington College, Saratoga High School and Aptos High School.

Boehm will be joined by offensive coordinator Joe D’Arrigo, who was assistant coach at San Jose State. A graduate of Syracuse University, D’Arrigo had previously coached at Aptos High School.

The Slugs open the 2018 season visiting Santa Clara University on Feb. 3.
