Spartans Disclose Sked, Captains

November 27th, 2017 General News | Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State men's lacrosse team will have quad captains leading the team this spring against a schedule that features premium competition from across the country.

The Spartans will be led by senior attackman Brett Braun, senior defender Patrick Donovan, senior defensive middie Sam Robbins along with sophomore midfielder Blake Grewal-Turner, according to head coach Cam Holding.

"Patrick Donovan and Sam Robbins are both incredible leaders," Holding said. "Not only are they leaders on the field, but they are president and vice president of our team's executive board and have given a ton to make this program what it is today.

"Brett Braun transferred in my first year as coach and has improved so much in his time at State. He is a guy that everyone on the team looks to to make plays. Whether its driving to the net or making great feeds, he is focused and ready to battle this spring.

"Blake is another transfer who came to us this year from Detroit Mercy," continued Holding. "He is one of those players who coaches love to work with: great work ethic, responds to direction and has a sense for the game while providing a great deal of leadership on the field."

The Spartans' schedule features 14 opponents, including six teams that appeared in the final MCLA Top 25 Division I poll -- highlighted by Cal-Berkeley, which advanced to the national semifinals in 2017.

"Our schedule requires us to travel a fair amount, but we feel it is going to give us some really tough competition and prep us for our conference tournament and hopefully nationals," said Holding.

"The last two years we have gone into nationals as a very high seed playing tough competition in the first round and have come up just short. We feel we are playing some of the best teams in the country in the regular season and that will give us a good shot at earning some respect in the weekly rankings."
