BYU Announces Spring Schedule

BYU Announces Spring Schedule

December 1st, 2017 General News | BYU

PROVO, Utah – The Brigham Young University men’s lacrosse team has announced an aggressive, 16-game schedule for 2018.

The Cougars will make four regular season, out-of-state road trips in an effort to play many of the MCLA’s top programs, including six teams that attended the 2017 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

The Cougars have six home dates, beginning with SLC contender UNLV on Feb. 10 to open the home schedule at the Cougars' recently updated indoor facility.

The Cougars will then take to the road, traveling to Northern California to play Stanford on Feb. 22 and WCLL preseason favorite Cal-Berkeley on Feb. 24. BYU will then head home for a game on March 3 against Davenport BYU’s North University Field.

Two days following the Cougars' game versus Davenport, they will head south to Texas for a challenging three game stretch. The Cougars will first visit Texas A&M on March 7 followed by a quick turn around game on March 8 against LSA powerhouse Texas.

After a short day off, the Cougars will play a neutral site contest against SELC Southeast division front-runners Florida State Seminoles in Austin.

The Cougars will face four PNCLL teams in a row, beginning with preseason top pick Oregon on March 17 in Provo, followed by a matchup with Washington on March 19.

The Cougars will once again hit the road, this time to Boise, Idaho, to meet Simon Fraser on March 23 and Boise State on March 24.

RMLC competition begins on March 30 with a Friday night matchup with Utah State in Provo. The Cougars will then take to the road for a fourth and final time during the regular season as they travel to Boulder, Colo., on April 12 to play Colorado in a rematch of the 2017 RMLC championship game.

BYU will then head north to Fort Collins, Colo., on April 14 to play Colorado State.

There will be little rest for the Cougars as they head back to Utah for their final week of regular season play. BYU will face Utah in a highly anticipated rivalry game on April 19 before wrapping up the regular season at home on April 21 versus crosstown rival Utah Valley. This final game of the season will also recognize four seniors competing in their final season at BYU.

The RMLC playoffs are scheduled for April 27 and 28 at Utah and the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour will be held in Salt Lake City for the first time at the new Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Complex from May 7-12.

Cougars coach Matt Schneck is looking forward to the 2018 season and the aggressive schedule.

“The team is excited for the 2018 season and so is the coaching staff,” Schneck said. “We will be challenging ourselves early and often in an effort to learn, grow and stretch ourselves in needed ways that will prepare us. Success in the postseason is always our objective, and I am hoping that our aggressive schedule will be one elements that will help us accomplish our goals.”
