Sierra Nevada Dumps St. Mary's

February 20th, 2018 General News | Sierra Nevada | St. Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. - The Sierra Nevada men's lacrosse team kicked off the 2018 season this past weekend, downing WCLL rival St. Mary's, 15-1 on the road.

The Eagles' defense, led by captains Cale Tuttle and Christian Bosley, lived up to its national reputation, only allowing nine shots on cage and one goal in the first quarter.

The explosive Eagles' offense was paced by captain Jake Caliguire and Jack Southron. Caliguire finished with two goals and six assists while Southron tallied five goals and three assists.

In total, 13 of SNC's 16 goals were assisted and nine different players scored.

Senior faceoff specialist Kevin Pham consistently earned the Eagles possessions, winning 12 of his 16 faceoffs (75%).

Adding to the team's faceoff success were Quinn Nicodemus (67%) and Carson McCarron (100%).

"We're fairly pleased with the way we played this weekend," said SNC coach Matthew Day. "We played a complete team game and showed glimpses of how great we can be when we play the right way. That being said, we still have a lot of work to do if we want to reach our full potential. It's right back to work this week so we can continue making steps in the right direction. The only thing we care about is going 1-0 every week."

The Eagles will faceoff against conference rival and No. 22 ranked UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
